Firstly, what is corporate signage?

Well, this can refer to a wide variety of different signage which is all aimed at advertising your business.

The one that is mostly used, is a basic sign board with the name of the company and is usually located at the in front of the office, shop or workshop to identify it. It is essential with these signage boards to make the name or logo of the company stand out and is usually a very clean look without clutter. The reason for that is, when driving by or when looking for a specific place, you don’t want to struggle to make out what the name is. You want to immediately identify the name or logo, especially if you’re business is located in a busy road.

The second one that is seen a lot, also mainly features the name of the business and only a bit of essential information. The additional information can be anything from contact details and an address or some of the products and services you offer. With this kind of signage, there needs to be a balance between the name and the additional information shown, as both are very important in this instance. The wording needs to be short and to the point, allowing for easy identification. A smart and well thought out tagline will also go a long way in making your signage effective and memorable.

The third type of signage that is seen quite often, is mainly focused on the services and products you offer. On this type of signage you will firstly see the products or services offered and then you will see the name or logo of the company, along with contact details or an address. Because this signage contains more detailed information, it is usually located where people have more time to read it and not miss the message. It is still important to keep your message and information as short and to the point as possible to ensure you keep the attention of the audience. You don’t want to lose their attention before they even get to your name or details.

These are just examples of the most commonly found signage boards and this shows you how many differences there are in the design based on the end use of the board. This is why it’s very important to give your designer a full and detailed brief of your needs and desires, so they know what to focus on.

Another very important aspect of the signage you wish to print is the “specs” or specifications required by the printing company and the size of the design. There are usually standard sizes used by most printers, but this may vary from printer to printer. If you’re looking at advertizing in a preset advertizing space the sizes and specifications may be different, so this you will have to get from the place where you are going to put up the signage.

In terms of technical tips, we would also advise not to use a font that is hard to read or too fancy and to make sure the size of your text is big enough to be visible from a distance.
